Mgr.Liam McDaid

The Episcopal Ordination of Monsignor Liam McDaid as Bishop of Clogher took place on Sunday 25th July in St. Macartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan.

The Parish of Magh Ene was represented by thirty relatives, friends and neighbours who have been personally invited by Monsignor MacDaid and by twenty other Parishioners from Bundoran and St. Joseph’s, the Rock

We wish Monsignor McDaid well, who is a native of Bundoran, and pray that God may guide and pray for him as he prepares to lead us.

Parish Week of Prayer

Now that the Church has been refurbished, the Rosary Chapel has been built and the carparks and grounds in general have been completed, we turn our minds to the meaning of what the Church and Parish really promotes. Our Church is firstly where the Lord resides among His people. It is the place where people gather to worship. It is the place where we bring the small and great aspects of our lives to be blessed by the Lord.

In September (19th—25th) the Parish hopes to host a week of prayer. Using both Churches, we ask our communities and visitors to gather in prayer before the Lord. This first year is very experimental, in that we will make the schedule as simple as possible and then review it later in the year. During our week of prayer the Masses in both Churches will be celebrated by visiting Priests who will direct their prayer and preaching to matters dealing with the issues of today’s world. We will ask our local communities to provide the personnel, music and prayers necessary for these occasions. Pope Benedict has reminded us that Eucharistic Devotion should be part of Parish life so we will arrange such adoration for a period of time in both our Churches.

In the days approaching our week of prayer, other ideas will suggest themselves to us and we will incorporate them into our overall design but let us walk carefully this year so that in years to come, our week of prayer will develop in a proper manner.

Summer Concerts in the Rosary Chapel Bundoran

The Priests and People of the Parish are very Proud to present a number of Sacred and Classical Evenings in our New Rosary Chapel at the Church Of Our Lady Star Of The Sea in Bundoran. The Chapel has seating for approx 300 people and we hope that many will enjoy such musical evenings and that the special surroundings of the Rosary Chapel will contribute greatly to the special sound of such concerts. The First of our Concerts takes place on the 29th July when the Three Irish Tenors will perform for you at 8 pm.Our second Concert is on the 8th August with the 9 piece Chamber Philharmonia Cologne (Germany) performing for you at 8 pm.

The Blessing of the new Rosary Chapel and Church Grounds in Bundoran

Bishop Joseph Duffy Officially Opened and Blessed the New 300 seat Rosary Chapel Extension, New Cark Park and Newly Refurbished Church in Bundoran on Sunday 16th August.

There was a very large attendance on the day with locals and visitors from far and near  and also over 30 Priests from various Parishes in the Diocese and also neighbouring Parishes.

Changes in Parish Mass times

From January 1st 2009 the St Joseph’s Sunday 10.30am Mass will be permanently rescheduled for 10.00am. This will allow us to maintain, for the foreseeable future, the traditional two masses on the Rock and three in Bundoran. Whenever one of the Priests of the Parish is unavailable for any reason (holiday or illness etc.) we can cancel the Rock Vigil 8.00pm Mass and the Bundoran 8.30am Mass thereby asking the remaining priest to celebrate three weekend Masses, one in the Rock and two in Bundoran. Should one of the Priests be unavailable, the daily Parish Mass will be celebrated in Bundoran due to visiting numbers who attend there. We appreciate that such changes will ask parishioners to occasionally change schedules but we feel that a permanent change would be a better decision than constantly searching for clerical replacements and changing Mass times with very little notice.

Mass Intentions: Because of these changes it may be necessary to change the intentions of Saturday Night

Masses to Sunday Morning. It may also be necessary to combine a number of intentions in the same mass.

Whenever this occurs, the priest who says the mass can only keep the stipend (donation) for one of the masses, the stipends for the other masses will be donated to the Clogher Diocese Sick Priests’ Fund. In all

cases the family who books the first intention will be informed.

External Renovations St Joseph's Church The Rock Ballyshannon

St Josephs Church The Rock Ballyshannon External Renovations

Work began on Tuesday, 26th August on the External Renovations and Improvements to the Church. So far the contractors have demolished the front walls and removed the railings, gate and piers. The Railings, gates and piers have been taken away for cleaning and treatment. Obviously there will be some inconvenience for people using the Church over the next seven weeks or so and we apologise for this.

The following is a summary of the work planned:

1. Removing the cast iron railings in front of the Church, having them cleaned, treated and galvanised.

This should ensure their preservation for several generations. (The railings at the hall are different and

these have to be replaced by new railings).

2. Replacing the wall underneath with a capped stone wall.

3. Paving the entrance and the front of the Church with Tegulla paving brick from Tobermore Paving.

4. Putting down a new surface of tar on the walk at the sides of and behind the Church.

5. Moving the Fr Tierney Memorial Cross to the shrubbery on the south side of the entrance and

matching this shrubbery with the one depicting the name and the townlands of the parish.

The main Contractor chosen by the architect is McFadden Construction and Civil Engineering Contractors with the main sub-contractor for the railings being Quinn Ironworks. We wish them all the best with the work.

Update 21st Sept 2008 - The main stone work on the wall is now complete and we will await the capping and the return of the railings which will be put on together. The area around the Church has been prepared for tarring; the kerbing for the paving brick has been laid and the steps and the base for the Fr Tierney cross has been prepared. Because of this there will be inconveniences for people using the Church and we ask for everyone’s co-operation with the builders.

place and the wall is being cleaned. The railings have been cleaned, treated and galvanised thus restoring them and ensuring that they will be preserved for the foreseeable future. They will remain a silver colour as it is recommended not to paint them for at least six months. The work has now been completed.
