It is Interesting to know that this Spire was not
originally built with the Church and was built a few years afterwards. |

Bundoran Stone Cross
Little is known about the cross itself, but
according to an authority on Irish Crosses, it
belongs to the late 17th century or early 18th century - roughly the
Penal Days. The figure of Christ here resembles those on Penal Crosses.
It is probably associated with some old Church here, although it was also
noted in local folklore that it came from an old Franciscan House in the
Ross. It must have either
been originally inserted into the wall of the Parochial House by either
Very Rev Canon McKenna or by his successor, Bishop Mulhern, who was
pastor from 1903 - 1916. It was moved to the North facing Porch of the
Church when renovations took place in the late 1970's and in 2006 it was incorporated into the New Pastoral Centre
main entrance wall. (Old Parochial House) |
